AID IN ACTION
WE PROVIDE ONGOING SITUATION REPORTS FOR THE COUNTRIES CURRENTLY ON OUR FOCUS LIST AND THE AID DELIVERY NETWORK WE USE TO PROVIDE FUNDING.
GAZA
SPECIAL NOTICE:
We are all acutely aware of what is unfolding in Palestine as our news and media feeds are constantly updated with the dire humanitarian conditions the people of Gaza face. This crisis does not meet the criteria of our core focus on neglected crises, being those which are under-reported and severely under-funded. However, it is hard to draw a line in the sand when there are lives in desperate need. For this reason, we are allocating funding through Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders to provide support to the people of Gaza.

BURKINA FASO - REPORT RANKINGS:
“MOST NEGLECTED DISPLACEMENT CRISES” (NRC): 1ST
“10 CRISES THE WORLD CAN’T IGNORE” (IRC): 8TH
SITUATION REPORT
The Sahel, a belt region across northern and central Africa, is home to three of the top ten most neglected displacement crises in the world (Source: Norwegian Refugee Council). Our focus is primarily on Burkina Faso (1st) and neighbouring countries in the region including Mali (7th) & Cameroon (8th).
Burkina Faso has rapidly declined into one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world:
25% of the entire population in need of humanitarian aid
Number of people internally displaced has risen from a few thousand in 2018 to two million at the end of 2022 [See chart].
Multiple military coupes and the rise of non-state armed groups have made the political landscape extremely volatile. Approximately 40% of the country is outside of state control which makes aid efforts extremely difficult. Up to a million people are under blockade by armed groups and cut off from operational markets and social services. The UN and NGOs currently rely solely on a UN air bridge [access via helicopter] to reach these populations.
The political situation has resulted in restricted journalist access and the limited media coverage has overlooked the dire humanitarian situation. Further, limited willingness of the international community to engage with the political situation on the ground led to only 42% of the humanitarian aid funding required being fulfilled in 2022.

DRC - REPORT RANKINGS
“MOST NEGLECTED DISPLACEMENT CRISES” (NRC): 2ND
“10 CRISES THE WORLD CAN’T IGNORE” (IRC): 4TH
SITUATION REPORT
The humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) – a nation ranked 179th out of 191 on the human development index and second on the NRCs list of most neglected displacement crises in 2022 – remains one of the most complex and protracted humanitarian crises in the world.
The DRC is currently experiencing the largest hunger emergency in the world with 27+ million people experiencing food insecurity, while also hosting one of the largest displaced populations, reaching 5.7 million people (inc. 500k refugees from neighbouring countries). Ongoing armed conlift is the main factor in this crisis, and is significantly impacting humanitarian aid access.
The ongoing crisis in the DRC has little to no coverage in the media while experiencing historical levels of hunger and internal displacement, and aid efforts are further curtailed by lack of funding with less than 50% of the required aid funding received in 2022 to adequately provide food, safe drinking water and social support.
AID DELIVERY

We are providing funding to directly tackle the dire food insecurity the DRC is facing through the World Food Programme DRC Emergency Fund.
In 2022, WFP reached 6.2 million people with life-saving support, including food, cash and nutrition assistance. This assistance targeted vulnerable individuals, with a particular emphasis on reaching women, who comprised 58 percent of recipients. During this period, WFP moved 97,000 metric tons of food and distributed US$63.5 million in cash and commodity vouchers to those in need.

This is a country-based fund by the UN to support humanitarian NGOs and UN agencies in the DRC to assist the most vulnerable communities and people, and to provide them with urgently needed food, water, shelter and other basic support.
-
A.K.A Doctors Without Borders.
MSF continues to run some of the largest projects in the DRC, responding to epidemics, natural disasters, and conflict, while dealing with the consequences of heavy insecurity in the eastern part of the country.
For months, MSF has been the only medical care provider present in parts of the DRC.

Note - This is a targeted community program providing maternal care for women in DRC.
Hope for Our Sisters plans to establish a Maternal Health Fund at the Wellness Clinic in Goma, DR Congo. This fund will provide local women access to life saving, critical maternal care (cesarean deliveries) when women and/or families cannot pay. These funds are effective in preventing devastating birthing injuries (fistula) and protecting women and children from death during childbirth.
